Across Europe, visually impaired individuals (VIPs) face persistent challenges that hinder their full participation in the labor market and society. With an unemployment rate as high as 75% (European Blind Union), VIPs are often excluded due to a lack of accessible vocational education and training (VET), insufficient digital literacy, and systemic barriers within the workplace. This exclusion leads not only to financial hardship but also to social isolation and reduced self-esteem. Furthermore, many VET educators lack the resources and training needed to effectively support VIPs, perpetuating the cycle of underemployment.

The digital transformation of the workforce, accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic, has widened the skills gap, making it increasingly difficult for VIPs to compete in the labor market without tailored interventions. Meanwhile, innovative and inclusive approaches to VET, particularly those leveraging digital tools and accessible platforms, remain limited in availability.

To address these gaps, there is an urgent need to create targeted solutions that empower VIPs with relevant digital and vocational skills, while also equipping trainers with inclusive pedagogical methods. By building a cross-border network of organizations dedicated to tackling these challenges, this project will contribute to broader European goals of promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in education and employment.

This project aims to enhance the employability, digital skills, and social inclusion of visually impaired individuals (VIPs) across Europe by developing an innovative, accessible vocational education and training (VET) program. At its core, the initiative will create a dedicated digital platform designed specifically for VIPs, complete with a comprehensive toolbox of resources and training materials adapted to their needs.

In parallel, the project will empower educators and trainers with practical guidelines and methodologies to deliver high-quality, inclusive VET programs. Through workshops, tailored content, and interactive tools, educators will be better equipped to provide support and guidance to VIP learners.

Additionally, the project will advocate for greater awareness of the challenges faced by VIPs in the labor market, promoting policies that encourage equal opportunities and inclusive hiring practices. By facilitating collaboration between European partners from Greece, Croatia, and Cyprus, the project fosters a transnational exchange of best practices in accessible education and social innovation.

The project will directly benefit 200 VIPs, 50 trainers, and a wider network of policymakers and employers across Europe, creating sustainable resources that will remain openly accessible through various digital platforms. Through this initiative, we aim to break down barriers, reduce inequalities, and enable VIPs to participate fully in both education and employment.
