JOINT: youth and seniors learning together for the twin transition

In Kozani, young people and seniors will teach each other the skills of a fair green and digital transition.
Verde is pleased to announce that "Joint Action towards the Twin Transition" (JOINT) has been approved under the Erasmus+ programme, as a small-scale partnership in adult education funded through the Agence Erasmus+ France / Education Formation. The project started on 1 September 2026 and will run for 18 months, until 29 February 2028.
Kozani and Western Macedonia have produced much of Greece's electricity from coal for decades, and the region is now living one of the deepest transitions in Europe. Older residents hold valuable knowledge of sustainable everyday practices, while young people bring the digital skills that new jobs and services need. Verde works for an environmentally conscious society in our region, and JOINT gives both generations a way to learn from each other.
What the project will do
- Young people aged 16 to 25 will co-design a training curriculum and then act as mentors, helping seniors build digital skills such as communication tools, digital creativity and online safety.
- Seniors aged 55 and over will co-design a second curriculum and teach young people traditional sustainable practices, from agriculture and crafts to water management and upcycling.
- Youth-senior pairs in France, Greece and Serbia will then meet for 10 weekly sessions to create one digital and sustainable solution for their local community, and the lessons will become the JOINT Learning Handbook.
The approach follows the European DigComp and GreenComp frameworks and supports the Digital Education Action Plan and the European Green Deal. Each country will also host a local multiplier event, and the results will be presented at a hybrid final conference open to organisations across Europe.
The partnership and Verde's role
JOINT brings together three organisations: Atlas in France, which coordinates the project, Verde in Greece, and Navissos in Serbia. Verde leads the co-creation of the green skills curriculum with senior mentors and is responsible for quality assurance and evaluation across the project, through our Project Quality Manager. We will also run all project activities in Greece, working with local seniors, young people and community organisations.
All results, including the two training curricula, the Facilitator's Guidelines and the JOINT Learning Handbook, will be free to use on the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, EPALE and SALTO. Seniors and young people in Kozani who would like to take part can contact Verde.
JOINT is co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme (project 2026-1-FR01-KA210-ADU-000458226).
